Join Lisa, her family, and friends for a day full of adventures on the hill. See why Jake is in trouble again and why little Ben is shouting at everyone. Meet Lisa’s friend Sara the Hummingbird along with other friends on the hill. Watch what happens when the great Hawks fly over the hill. This book is interactive, so your child can be a part of the story. This book replaces Meet the Robin Family on the Hill, which is no longer in print. Lisa’s family are not Robins. Her family is known as Say’s Phoebe. I want to thank the Ventura Audubon Society for assisting me in identifying what species Lisa and her family are. They provided invaluable resources and insights that enriched the narrative of this book. With their help, young readers can learn about the unique traits and behaviors of Say’s Phoebe, fostering a deeper appreciation for the diverse avian life found in their own backyards.
Little Jacob came to the Balcony Garden in the early spring. He would sit for hours watching his cousin’s hummingbirds and other birds in the garden. I soon realized Jacob was afraid of heights and was not eating. He did not live high in the trees like the other hummingbirds. He stayed in the bush below the Balcony Garden. All his cousins and other birds tried to show little Jacob how easy it was to fly to the feeders, but he could not do it. I had to come up with a plan to help little Jacob overcome his fear of heights. Will Jacob join his cousin hummingbirds at the feeders? Will my plan work? Jacob soon learns through courage and with help from friends that there are no such words as “I can’t.” At the end of Jacobs’s story, there are some fascinating facts about the hummingbirds. These incredible creatures are not only agile fliers but also have the ability to hover in mid-air, thanks to their unique wing structure. With each flap of their wings, they effortlessly demonstrate the beauty of resilience and the power of believing in oneself.
